A week ago, I didn’t know what I was going to do. All of my personal and emergency savings were gone: $50,100. I was prepared to never see it again. I still am: this campaign supports my future legal bills, not past ones.
Then something happened. I launched this crowdfunding campaign, asking others to stand with me against Proctorio’s groundless lawsuit. In one weekend, we shattered the original goal. In one week, 477 people have contributed $32,385 to my legal defence. I can’t believe it.
Can you imagine being sued for 8 tweets? This could have been any one of us, and I think we all know that. This is a fight for the future, and it matters. It is not copyright infringement to share a link. Public information is not confidential information. Read my legal defence and decide for yourself: https://defence.linkletter.org
Your contributions are a powerful statement to Proctorio and any other company that money cannot buy someone else’s right to express themselves. This unethical behaviour is reprehensible, and we reject it. We will have our day(s) in court, and I’ll let you know as soon as one is set.
I believe every time I post an update, all of you will receive an email. I want you to look forward to them! Every update from this day forward will have positive news, but there may be quiet periods while the wheels of justice slowly turn.
I will be sharing much more regularly on Twitter. You may follow me at https://www.twitter.com/Linkletter
